Depending on who you ask, the MacElroy Family is credited with establishing D&D’s current cultural significance or destroying the hobby altogether, via their live play podcast, The Adventure Zone.  It cannot be denied that DM Griffon MacElroy plays it pretty fast and loose with the rules; honestly, what would you expect from the guys who made their names offering unsolicited, patently bad advice to strangers over a podcast? Certainly, a specific type of old school gamer will find their style of play profoundly annoying. But––and this does nothing to resolve the debate––there is a not-insignificant number of contemporary players who know the exact moment they fell in love with the tabletop RPG for its unmatched potential for unexpected, silly narrative; here is that moment (animated brilliantly by Immortan Jill):
